Ronin Clash Royale guide covering the Parry Damage ability, stats, best decks, strategy tips, and how to counter this new Legendary.

Table of Contents

Ronin is Clash Royale's first brand-new card in almost a year, and he's built around a single idea: win the 1v1 melee fight before it really starts. If you're picking up Ronin in Clash Royale for the first time, the whole card comes down to one mechanic, Parry Damage, and once you know when it fires and when it doesn't, he's one of the easiest cards in Season 85 to get free value from.

Ronin Clash Royale Stats and Overview

Ronin is a 5-Elixir Legendary troop that unlocks at Arena 14, Serenity Peak. He's a single-target, ground-only melee attacker with roughly 1,779 hitpoints and 371 damage per hit at tournament standard — hitpoints in line with a Knight, but damage and hit speed that sit closer to a Prince. Nothing about those base numbers is unusual for a 5-Elixir troop — Supercell confirmed the same figures in the official Season 85 patch notes. What makes Ronin Clash Royale games different is what happens the moment he gets hit.

How Does Ronin's Parry Damage Work?

Ronin doesn't have an ability button the way Champions such as Golden Knight or Little Prince do — Parry Damage triggers on its own. On a 3.5-second timer, Ronin fully blocks the next ground melee attack he takes and sends double that damage straight back at whoever threw the hit. Against a slow, heavy hitter like P.E.K.K.A, Mega Knight, Giant Skeleton, or Boss Bandit, one well-timed parry can end the trade instantly.

The limits matter just as much as the payoff. Parry Damage only reacts to ground melee attacks — ranged hits, air attacks, deploy damage, death damage, spells, and area attacks all go straight through untouched. Bats and Phoenix are technically melee but are specifically excluded from triggering the parry too. And because only one hit gets blocked every 3.5 seconds, anything that attacks faster than that, or attacks in a group, will land plenty of damage in between.

Best Ronin Decks in Clash Royale

Ronin isn't a card you build a whole deck around — he's a card you slot into a deck to fix a matchup it was already losing.

Ronin Hog Cycle

Add Ronin to a Hog Rider cycle shell and let him sit back on defense. He soaks and punishes whatever melee troop the opponent throws at your tower while Hog Rider keeps chipping away on the other side. Because the deck stays cheap, you can keep Parry Damage charged and ready far more often than in a slower deck.

Ronin Mortar Bait

Mortar bait decks have always had one weak spot: expensive single-target melee troops like Prince or Boss Bandit that punish a thin ground defense. Ronin closes that gap without you having to change how the rest of the deck plays.

In either shell, play him defensively first. Sending Ronin in alone at the bridge wastes his best trait — Parry Damage only pays off when the opponent's melee troop attacks him, so let them commit first. Browse the best decks hub for more ready-made shells to drop him into.

How to Counter Ronin in Clash Royale

Ronin is only dangerous in a straight ground melee fight, so the counterplay is more about deck-building than split-second reactions. Ranged troops like Musketeer, Bowler, Wizard, and Sparky beat him cleanly since Parry Damage never triggers against ranged damage. Air troops — Minions, Mega Minion, Flying Machine — counter him completely, since Ronin can't hit air units at all. On the ground, swarms are the cleanest answer: Skeleton Army, Guards, or Goblins split their attacks across several units, so Ronin's single parry only stops one attacker while the rest connect. Fast, low-damage melee troops like Lumberjack or Monk also give Ronin less to work with, since a smaller blocked hit means a smaller reflected hit back.

How to Unlock Ronin

During Season 85's release window, Ronin isn't sitting in regular chests. You can unlock him for free through the Season 85 release event, or pick up copies through the Premium Pass Royale reward track. Supercell has also tied him to a four-week Album Event, letting you collect story scenes and snippets as it progresses. Once Season 85 wraps up, Ronin moves into the standard unlock pool at Arena 14 (4,600 trophies), the same way other Legendaries at that tier work. Maxing him out from scratch takes 67 Ronin cards and roughly 355K gold.

Ronin Clash Royale FAQ

Is Ronin a Champion or a Legendary?
Ronin is a Legendary, not a Champion. Parry Damage fires automatically — there's no ability button, and no extra Elixir cost to use it.

What beats Ronin in Clash Royale?
Ranged troops, air troops, and swarms are his hardest counters, since Parry Damage only blocks single ground melee hits every 3.5 seconds.

Does Ronin's parry block spells?
No. Spells, area damage, deploy damage, and death damage all bypass Parry Damage completely.
