How to Get Crystals in Clash Royale (2026 Guide)

Learn how to get Crystals in Clash Royale, how max-level card copies convert by rarity, where to check your balance, and what Crystals can buy.

Table of Contents

If you are wondering how to get Crystals in Clash Royale, the answer is simple: you earn them when you receive extra copies of a card that is already upgraded to its maximum level. Those duplicate copies are converted automatically, and the number of Crystals you receive depends on the card’s rarity.

Crystals are not the same as Gems, Gold or Star Points. They are a separate resource designed mainly for players who continue collecting cards after reaching the maximum card level. You can check your balance in the Magic Items section of your Collection and spend the currency on eligible cosmetic rewards in the Shop.

How to Get Crystals in Clash Royale

To get Crystals, you must first have a card upgraded to the current maximum level. After that, any additional copies you collect for that card are converted into Crystals automatically. You do not need to activate the conversion or visit a separate exchange screen.

  1. Upgrade a card to its maximum level.
  2. Collect another copy of that same maxed card.
  3. The duplicate card converts into Crystals automatically.
  4. Open Collection and check the Magic Items tab to see your balance.

This means new and mid-level accounts may not earn many Crystals immediately. The system becomes more important as your collection develops and more cards reach their maximum level.

Clash Royale Crystal Conversion Rates

Higher-rarity duplicates are worth more Crystals. The current conversion values are:

Duplicate card Crystals received
1 Common card 1 Crystal
1 Rare card 6 Crystals
1 Epic card 60 Crystals
1 Legendary card 600 Crystals
1 Champion card 1,200 Crystals
1 Ruler card from Merge Tactics 480 Crystals

The rarity value applies per card copy. A group of duplicate cards therefore converts according to the number of copies received. Legendary and Champion duplicates generate much larger individual amounts because those cards are considerably rarer.

Where Do Crystal-Producing Card Copies Come From?

Crystals do not normally drop as a standard battle reward. Instead, they are produced when a reward gives you copies of a card you have already maxed. Those copies may come from eligible chests, rewards, trades or other collection sources available in the game.

The important condition is the card’s upgrade status. Having enough copies available for an upgrade is not the same as completing that upgrade. The card must already be at the maximum level when you receive the additional copies.

Getting Crystals through the Trader

Maxed cards can still appear in trades. If a trade would give you copies of a card that is already maxed, those incoming copies can be converted into Crystals using the same rarity values. This can make the Trader useful when the available offer matches a card you have completed.

Do not confuse receiving a maxed card with giving one away. When you need to provide copies of a maxed card in a trade, the game may charge its Gold value instead. The Crystal conversion applies to eligible extra copies you receive.

Do Tower Troop Duplicates Give Crystals?

Yes. Tower Troops are collectible support cards and their duplicate copies convert according to their rarity after the Tower Troop is maxed. They still use a separate Tower Troop slot in battle and never replace one of the eight normal deck cards.

You can browse all Clash Royale cards and Tower Troops on RoyaleZone to review the complete collection.

What Are Crystals Used For?

Crystals are used to purchase certain cosmetic items in the Shop. They are designed to give duplicate max-level cards a continuing purpose, even when those copies can no longer contribute to another card upgrade.

Cosmetics affect presentation rather than card strength. Spending Crystals does not increase card damage, Hitpoints or tower level, and it does not replace the Gold and card copies required for normal upgrades.

Where to Find Your Crystal Balance

Open your Collection and go to the Magic Items tab. Your available Crystals are displayed there alongside other collection resources. The Magic Items section unlocks through normal account progression.

Crystals have a storage limit, so it is worth checking your balance periodically if you own many maxed cards. Review the available cosmetic items before collecting a large number of additional duplicates.

Fastest Way to Earn More Crystals

There is no special battle mode that guarantees unlimited Crystals. The practical way to increase Crystal income is to develop your collection and continue earning card rewards after cards reach the maximum level.

  • Concentrate upgrades on cards you use regularly instead of spending resources randomly.
  • Continue collecting normal rewards after completing a card.
  • Check Trader offers involving cards you have already maxed.
